The South Australian Gender, Sex and Sexualities Committee is seeking abstract submissions and art proposals for the Seventh Annual South Australian Gender, Sex and Sexualities Postgraduate and Early Career Researcher Conference. The conference will run over two days, Tuesday the 22nd and Wednesday the 23rd of September, at the Flinders University Victoria Square campus.
The deadline for submissions is June 29.
Due to current travel restrictions due to COVID-19 concerns, we are sourcing our keynote speakers (TBA) from South Australia. We are however operating under the assumption that the conference will take place in September as planned, so we welcome submissions for standard presentations from postgraduate and early career researchers from interstate. We are working to ensure that other arrangements will be made if travel restrictions or social distancing measures prevent people from physically attending the conference as planned.
This conference aims to bring postgraduate and early career researchers together to share their work and collaborate with likeminded researchers. It also provides an opportunity to network with other students and academics in your field of study. The day prior to the conference will also include free workshops (details TBA) intended to assist you with skills related to higher degree by research and pursuing academic work. The conference also includes exciting presentations from our invited keynote and panel speakers, who are pleased to answer questions about their research and offer advice and guidance to our other presenters and attendees.
We invite three different types of presentation:
- Standard presentation (20 minutes)
- Short ‘snapshot’ presentation (5 minutes)
- Visual art
In order to open our conference to a wider audience and range of presenters, we are considering any submissions which relate to the study of Gender, Sex and Sexualities. This year’s theme has been kept purposefully open in order to attract presentations on a variety of issues, both theoretical and practical. This is an interdisciplinary conference and we are looking to showcase research from a variety of subject areas. Previous presenters have included students and ECRs from the fields of Anthropology, Cultural Studies, Creative Writing, Health Science, History, Indigenous Studies, Law, Linguistics, Philosophy, Politics, Sociology, Visual Art, and Women’s and Gender Studies.
Art submissions or proposals can come from postgraduate students who participate in art outside of their studies, current art students at any institution, recently graduated artists, and local emerging artists. Artists of all skill level are welcome to enter. Multiple submissions and collaborative work are welcomed. Artists will retain the rights to their art and will not be compensated for their contributions. The conference is open to all mediums, including but not limited to, photography, painting, printmaking, sculpture, textiles and drawing. Please note that you must be able to install the art piece at the conference yourself, but the conference may also be conducted virtually this year if restrictions are still in place.
We encourage you to share our call for papers and visual art with your networks. Download the Call For Papers & Visual Art.
