Space and Place: Conceptions of movement and belonging will be held in Adelaide, South Australia on September 19-20 2018, in Napier 102 lecture theatre at the University of AdelaideNorth Terrace Campus. Click here for a campus map.

The aim of this conference is to bring together postgraduate students and early career researchers from across South Australia to share their work and research with their peers and to continue building a collegial and collaborative environment for South Australian and Australian students. This year’s theme aims to explore the concepts of space and place and their intersections with gender, sex, and sexuality in relation to the structural, personal, institutional, cultural, symbolic, epistemic, and discursive. This theme is purposefully broad and can be applied to any number of issues, theoretical and practical, that affect the wider community.

In addition to critical and creative conference papers, we are seeking visual art displays by art students and emerging artists to be exhibited at the conference.

We are also searching for an art piece to feature on our Facebook page and website, and all conference materials. Art submissions may come from postgraduate students who participate in art outside of their studies, current art students at any institution in SA, or recently graduated and emerging artists.

Artists may submit the same piece of work as both the representative art piece and a general art piece. Artists may also submit a piece of work as the representative art piece and an abstract for a full-length or short talk. Multiple submissions are allowed.

Artists, please note that you must be able to install the art piece at the conference yourself – we will not be responsible for producing prints, other than those used on programs and other conference materials. Artists will retain the rights to their art and will not be paid or otherwise compensated for their contributions.

Submissions for representative art close 15 June, 2018 and all other submissions close Jun 24, 2018.

*Proposals for the representative art piece can be submitted in lieu of a finished piece of art and must be received by the date stated above. If accepted, the finished art piece must be completed and submitted in July 2018.
